Sebastien P. Faucher, an Associate Professor at McGill University, specializes in the microbiology of water-borne pathogens. He earned his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Université de Montréal in 2007, with a focus on identifying virulence genes in Salmonella typhi. His postdoctoral work at Columbia University and McGill University explored Legionella pneumophila and genetic determinants of cerebral malaria. Faucher's research investigates how bacteria infect humans and animals through water and food consumption, with a focus on the behavior of pathogens like Legionella pneumophila and Campylobacter jejuni in non-clinical environments. His work aims to understand genetic and environmental factors influencing pathogen behavior and transmission. Faucher also studies microbial control strategies and the evolution of pathogen resistance and virulence. He is involved in developing rapid detection methods for L. pneumophila in water systems and explores microbial diversity and its impact on pathogen growth. Faucher teaches courses in introductory microbiology and mechanisms of pathogenicity. He actively contributes to the scientific community as an Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of Microbiology and a member of several research organizations, including CRIPA and the McGill Interdisciplinary Initiative in Infection and Immunity.
