("InnScience", "we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws (including Alberta's PIPA, British Columbia's PIPA, and Québec's Law 25).

By using the InnScience Platform (our website, applications, and related services), you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.

2. General Terms

  • "User", "you", or "your" means any individual or entity using the InnScience Platform, including visitors, Clients, and Service Providers.

  • "Project" means research projects connecting Clients and Service Providers through the Platform.

A. Information You Provide

  • Contact and Profile Data: name, email, phone number, and account credentials.
  • Transactional Data: payment or banking details for billing or disbursement.
  • Communications: messages, inquiries, or support requests.
  • Promotional Data: voluntary participation in surveys, contests, or newsletters.

B. Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data: pages visited, session duration, interactions, and referring URLs.

  • Location Data: city or postal code derived from IP address, or precise data with consent.

7. TechLink Expert Discovery

TechLink is our AI-powered expert discovery feature that helps users find researchers, inventors, and industry partners for collaboration. This section explains how we handle expert data in compliance with PIPEDA and CASL.

A. Data Sources

Expert profiles in TechLink are compiled from:

  • Public Academic Databases: ORCID, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, and other publicly available research registries.
  • User-Submitted Profiles: Information voluntarily provided by platform users.
  • Institutional Directories: Publicly available professional directories.

B. Purpose of Processing

Expert data is processed exclusively for:

  • Facilitating research collaboration and academic networking
  • Connecting researchers with potential partners and funding opportunities
  • Supporting innovation and scientific advancement

C. CASL Compliance

In compliance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), all users requesting expert contact information must:

  • Acknowledge that contact information is for professional outreach only
  • Agree not to send unsolicited commercial messages without prior consent
  • Accept responsibility for compliance with CASL regulations

Important: Marketing emails, promotional content, and commercial solicitations are strictly prohibited without the express consent of the expert.

D. Expert Rights and Opt-Out

If your profile appears in TechLink, you have the right to:

  • Opt-Out: Request removal of your profile from TechLink search results at any time
  • Access: Request a copy of the information we hold about you
  • Correction: Request updates or corrections to your profile data
  • Deletion: Request complete deletion of your information from our systems

E. Audit and Logging

All requests for expert contact information are logged for compliance and security purposes. These logs include the requesting user, purpose of contact, and acknowledgment of CASL compliance. Experts may request access to logs of who has viewed their profile.

8. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access and receive a copy of your personal information.
  • Request correction, deletion, or portability of your data.
  • Withdraw consent to marketing or optional processing.
  • File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC).

9. Information Retention

We retain personal data only as long as necessary to fulfill stated purposes, comply with legal obligations, or resolve disputes. Anonymized data may be retained for research and analytics.

10. Transfer of Data

We may store or process data outside Canada (e.g., the U.S.). When transferred, contractual clauses and technical safeguards ensure equivalent protection under PIPEDA and Law 25.

11. Information Security

We apply administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure.

However, no system is completely secure; transmission is at your own risk. Maintain the confidentiality of your password and credentials.

12. Data Breach Notification

In the event of a breach posing a "real risk of significant harm," InnScience will:

  • Notify affected individuals and the OPC as required by PIPEDA.
  • Maintain a record of all breaches for a minimum of 24 months.

13. Children Under 13

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If such data is identified, it will be deleted promptly.

14. Notification of Changes

InnScience reviews this Policy periodically. Updates will appear on the Site with a revised "Last Revised" date. Material changes will be communicated via email or site notice before taking effect.

15. Jurisdiction-Specific Provisions

This Policy complies with federal and provincial privacy laws, including PIPEDA, AB PIPA, BC PIPA, and Québec Law 25. Users in other jurisdictions may have additional rights under local laws.
